Its been an incredibly busy and exciting time for us - painting & decorating the studio and also getting to know the surrounding area. The studio property is over 200 years old and was in serious need of some TLC when we first arrived in August. I spent the best part of 6 weeks filling cracks and holes in the walls and, with some help from my Dad, prepping the old stone walls and beams on the ceiling for painting. Consequently, we were able to seal off many of the draughts and unwanted air currents that were coming into the building. The paint itself took three coats in the end, but it was definitely worth it. The walls and ceiling have a lovely finish in dimity and we've picked out the old wooden beams in an eggshell white. We had our first spate of really freezing cold weather last week and the studio fared incredibly well. I'm pleased to say that all our hard work has truly paid off - we have a beautiful little yoga studio which is also very warm and cozy, no matter what the weather's doing outside.

The studio has been freshly kitted out with high quality mats & equipment from the good folks over at Ruth White Yoga. We've also sourced some lovely Yak Wool blankets made by Tibetan refugees, courtesy of Jo at Firefly in Totnes. We've put together a brilliant team of experienced yoga teachers, and we're now offering a range of classes for all levels of ability and experience: from very gentle yoga and relaxation classes through to dynamic Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga.

On the 1st of December we will be holding a special Kirtan and opening celebration at the studio - which is free and to which everyone is invited. Kirtan is a form of Bhakti - devotional yoga in which mantras are sung to the accompaniment of Indian instruments. Its a lot of fun and we hope you'll join us. The proceedings will be led by Cornish Kirtan wallah, Barry Elms. Its a free event and we'll also be providing some light refreshments and veggie snacks.

We've got loads of inspiring workshops and classes coming up over the Christmas period. We're also already got some great workshops scheduled for next year, including 'Curvy Girl Yoga' with Bristol based teacher Devaki, Holistic Yoga with Duncan Hulin and also a special flow yoga workshop with all-round dude and former US surfing champion, Doug Swenson. We've got some other surprise guest teachers in the pipeline which we'll let you know about soon.

A massive thank you to everyone who helped us to get the studio ready and to all our new friends in Torquay who have made us feel so welcome in our new yoga home.

Alice and I warmly welcome you to Yoga Torquay and look forward to seeing you at the studio soon.
